Tour Volos-Meteora-Metsovo-Ioannina-Dodoni-Igoumenitsa

Departure from Volos at the time and place you decide for us to pick you up, heading in the direction of Kalambaka. The travel time from Volos to Meteora is an hour and a half, and the distance is 150 km. Upon arrival we will follow the tour plan you choose for visiting the monasteries. As we drive around to the Meteora monasteries, we will suggest scenic stopping points along the route where you will find panoramic views, so you can take souvenir photos.

There are six monasteries operating today:

St. Nicholas of Anapafsas, Holy Trinity, St. Stephen, Roussanou, Varlaam, and the Great Meteoron. We will wait for you while you tour a monastery, and then take you to the next monastery you have chosen to visit.

After completing your tour of Meteora, you can relax with a drink or snack in the town of Kalambaka. In the city square there are cafes and traditional restaurants where you can enjoy the local cuisine.

Departing from Kalambaka, your journey continues towards Metsovo.

Duration of the trip is approximately one hour. The distance is 65 km.

Metsovo is a traditional village built in the mountains of the Pindos mountain range at the altitude of 1160m. Beautiful guesthouses built in the style of the village, overlooking the green slopes of the mountains, can accommodate visitors.

The Folklore Museum of the Tositsa Foundation (Tositsa Manor) has been operating since 1955. Its collection includes traditional wood-carved furniture, woven, gold-embroidered costumes, both decorative and utilitarian objects, weapons, coins, agricultural tools, and icons from the period 1650-1850. Additionally, since 1988 the E. Averof Art Gallery has been in operation, where approximately 250 paintings by painters of the 19th and 20th centuries are exhibited.

Metsovo

Leaving Metsovo and continuing the tour, the next destination is Ioannina, capital city of the Region of Epirus in Western Greece. It lies on the western side of historic Lake Pamvotida, one of the oldest in the world (about 7 million years old).

The city’s plethora of important attractions, such as the Archaeological Museum, the Byzantine Museum, the Byzantine Castle of Ioannina, the Silversmithing Museum, the Aslan Pasha Mosque, the Ottoman Library, the Fetiye Mosque, the Historical Center of Ioannina, the Perama cave (830 meters long and approximately 14,400 sq.m.), the island of Ioannina (with the Ali Pasha Museum, and several monasteries), and the Vrellis Wax Museum, draw many visitors.

Ioannina is a city where visitors will need time to see the sights.

Of course you can choose to enjoy a drink or local traditional food in the lakeside cafes and restaurants, or on the little island. (At regular intervals the lake boats depart from the central pier to take visitors to the island.)

Next stop on the tour, located 22 km south of Ioannina, is ancient Dodoni, with its well-preserved ancient theater. It was built in the 3rd century BC, during the reign of King Pyrrhus, and is famous for the Oracle of Dodoni (2600 BC).

After your visit to the archaeological site of Dodoni, continue to the final destination of Igoumenitsa, the port of Western Macedonia. From here ferries connect to Corfu, Paxos and Italy.
